Storm Claim Sandy, UT / $14,600

The Reyes claim. Zero out of pocket.

How we documented hail damage, walked the adjuster through it, and got the whole roof replaced on State Farm's dime.

The Problem.

August 14, 2024. A fast-moving cell dropped golf-ball-sized hail across Sandy in under twelve minutes. The Reyes family stepped outside that evening to find their gutters dented, their patio table chipped, and their roof speckled white with bruised shingles.

Within a week, three out-of-state "storm chasers" were knocking on their door — promising "free roofs" and pressuring them to sign right there on the porch. The Reyeses had heard enough storm-chaser horror stories from their neighbors. They called us instead.

The Solution.

We documented every dent the next morning. Drone aerials of the full roof, then close-up on-roof photos of the impact bruises, with chalked spots to make the damage obvious in pictures. Compiled it into a single PDF report and emailed it to their State Farm adjuster.

On Tuesday at 9am, we met the adjuster on the roof. Walked him through the damage section by section — pointing out the metallurgical bruising, the soft spots where granules had separated, the dented vents and ridge cap. Full replacement approved that afternoon.

For the replacement we upgraded to GAF Timberline HDZ in Charcoal, which carries a Class 4 impact rating. That upgrade qualifies the Reyes family for a discount on their homeowner's insurance going forward — about $40/month off the policy. The shingle costs marginally more; insurance covered the difference.

The Outcome.

Two-day install. The Reyes family paid their $1,000 deductible. State Farm covered $14,600. Plus the ongoing premium discount for the impact-rated roof.

The neighbors who let storm-chasers replace their roofs? Two of them are still chasing down the contractor for warranty work that's now ghosting.

"After the August hailstorm, I had three door-knockers in my driveway in a week. Rad was the one local company in the mix. They met my State Farm adjuster on the roof and got the whole replacement covered. Paid my deductible and that was it."
